A Focus on Diversity

One of the Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership’s upcoming courses springs from the idea that diversity is an essential aspect of development offices. While designing “Embracing Diversity to Understand Your Donors,” a new online course, Director Angela Seaworth “wanted to bring together experts on diversity and inclusion to create a course that would help development professionals understand constituent engagement and help them map out a plan for their development office to implement more inclusive practices.”

You will learn from these expert instructors through discussion, readings, relevant case studies and myth-busting, while gaining practical tools to help move your own development office toward a focus on establishing relationships with all members of the community.

NelsonBowmanNelson Bowman III, executive director of development in the office of development at Prairie View A&M University and one of the course’s eight instructors, describes the importance of understanding the role of diversity. “By all accounts, the face of philanthropy is changing as rapidly as the demographics in this country and yet many organizations are resisting the inevitable …Why? As fundraisers, our goal should be to increase gifts and grow our constituency however, in order to do that we must be willing to change with the times and do away with outdated approaches and processes. The ‘Embracing Diversity to Understand Your Donors’ course is designed to give practitioners and administrators the tools needed to begin the behavior modification process within their workplace environment.”

“Embracing Diversity to Understand Your Donors” is an online course, so you can connect with nonprofit leaders from around the world and learn from the comfort of your desk. This three-session course begins Wednesday, April 29.
