Fashion in Film

Audrey_Hepburn_Tiffanys_3Few things can influence the world of fashion more than film. Now more than ever, fashion shows and makeup lines are based on current movies. What is the most impressive though are how movies made decades earlier continue to influence what you see on the street. Among Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy’s many contributions to the world, the little black dress from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” remains the benchmark that which all other black dresses will be compared. From torn sweatshirts to ruby slippers, movies do a lot more than leave an impression on a screen.

In our upcoming course, “Fashion in Film,” designer Toni Whitaker will examine ten fashion-focused films that became well-known standards for style including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “The Great Gatsby.” To conclude the course, students will hear from vintage clothing expert Dawn Ohlsson Bell.

Explore film’s impact on fashion with us starting Wednesday, April 2.
