This semester “Education Policy: From Legislatures to Classrooms” had a special guest lecturer: former state legislator, vice-chair of the House Committee on Public Education, chair of the Education Subcommittee of the House Committee on Appropriations, and most importantly, Rice Alumnus, Scott Hochberg. This course has been a unique opportunity for Rice students to gain first-hand information on current educational issues and have the opportunity to explore the movement of bills from committee to the floor of the legislature.
With the current legislative session starting in conjunction with the spring semester and education issues at the forefront of the session’s agenda, the course has provided an opportunity for real-time analysis of education policy debate and decisions.
Recently, Rep. Hochberg sat down with Houston Public Radio KUHF to discuss the education policy course and the current state of education in Texas. Take a listen and then tell us what you think about the state of our state in regards to education.
