Each semester in our course catalog, we print a quote that we think suits our mission of continuing education. Here are a few that we really like:
- “What we learn with pleasure we never forget.” – Alfred Mercier
- “We have a hunger of the mind which asks for knowledge of all around us, and the more we gain, the more is our desire; the more we see, the more we are capable of seeing.” – Maria Mitchell
- “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – William Butler Yeats
Our mission is to help you “light a fire” – to reject stagnancy, both personally and professionally. Through this blog we hope you will discover programs you didn’t know about, meet some of the interesting people who administer and teach our programs, and become inspired to seek continuing education for yourself. And when you are thus inspired, we hope you find what you are looking for at the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies.
This fall, our quote is from William Bennett: “All real education is the architecture of the soul.” It fits particularly well with “The Builders of Rice” course and “Spotlight on Rice University’s School of Architecture.” Right now in the office we are busy taking registrations for all of our fall semester programs and working on plans for the spring. If you’re interested in seeing what’s available this semester, here are some quick links to our programs:
Personal Development, Professional Development, Foreign Language, English as a Second Language, Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, Center for College Readiness, Master of Liberal Studies.
